Lately I have been traveling so much! From traveling back and forth to New York to frequent trips to DC I have earned a lot of frequent flyer miles with Delta!  Not to mention  miles on my car! With so many quick trips under my belt I have come up with a handy arsenal of quick trip essentials to make traveling an ease. With the fourth of July right around the corner I’m sure these essentials will help with Holiday packing!

July Mood

Featured

It’s July 1st!  Boy 2014 has really flown by and with summer in full swing I am daydreaming about reading beachside in a cozy hammock, Fourth of July cookouts and more personal challenges for the month of July!

 Personal Challenges

June was a month of a lot personal success and a few setbacks but with that said as July rolls in I am excited about starting a new challenge! Going vegetarian for 30 days. Well kinda! The first two-week of July I plan on slowly weaning myself off meat, eating mostly fish and chicken than for the last two weeks of the month eating only veggies. I want to stretch myself and see how creative I can get by not eating just pasta! We’ll see how this turns out but I am definitely ready for this because I feel like my body needs a good detox and I’m thinking adding more veggies will do the trick.

More on Trusting the Process

Yesterday I talked about trusting the process and that is exactly what I am doing. Instead of focusing so much energy into my job search I have decided to redirect that energy to more of creative endeavors, like this blog. Clearly I have been slacking and with me releasing myself from this job search that free’s up a lot of my mind space and my time.

Creatively Speaking

Creatively I have been super interested in all things design. In particular layout design. This month I hope to explore this new interest more on the blog. Look out for some interesting designs!

Let’s Review

Lastly this month I am taking some real-time to look over my goals for this year. I guess you can call this a midpoint review. July 1 starts the new fiscal year for many organizations and I’m taking a que from them and will really examine areas I can improve and focus on goals that I haven’t paid much attend too in the last few months.

July here we come!

Monday’s Tea:Trusting The Process..

Tomorrow is the first day of July. Tomorrow is also the expiration date for a goal I set for myself. Finishing my job search and attaining a job. Unfortunately this goal has not been yet attained. In my head, today would be the day I would be writing in this word press blog from my New York apartment excited about all the new opportunities the concrete jungle had for me. But… Life doesn’t always pan out the way you want it too and sometimes the best thing you can do is trust the process.

Trust that no matter what everything happens for a reason and when one door closes another always opens. Job searches can take a toll on you mentally and frankly  job interviewers can be are asses.  But when it’s all said in done though, finding something that’s the right fit is what’s most important. Trusting this fact makes me excited about tomorrow and excited that something good is coming I just have to be patient and wait.

Brown Girl Find: Artist:Teil Duncan

Lately I have had a strange obsession with decorating. Maybe it’s my impending move that’s has me searching for plush interiors and wall art. Lots of wall art. When I was younger my mother always had an eye for interiors and I think I have gotten the interiors bug lately too!

That brings me to my next point, have you heard of the artist Teil Dunan? In the rabbit hole that is the internet I somehow stumbled upon Teil Dunan work and boy was I lucky. The South Carolina native is known for her vibrant colors and beach landscapes. Her paintings suck you in and make you feel as though your in another place at another time. A calmer more peaceful place.  I just adore her color palette, visible brushstrokes and her fluid movement throughout her work! Her art is something I would love to have in my next apartment or in my office.

Another thing I love about Teil’s work is that she was featured in one of my favorite designer’s resort lines! Christian Siriano! He is one of my inspirations and seeing his designs with her art! Well lets just say it’s runway ready! I can’t wait to buy both the art and the clothes! I can take Teil’s art go with me anywhere!

Check Teil out on her website, blog and tumblr!

As this week draws to a close take time to pay it forward and thank your friends for all they do.

Once you arrive you make sure to take you seat in the back because you wouldn’t want to be noticed alone in a room full of people. But heck your here now so you might as well enjoy yourself! You go to the bathroom to freshen up and as you make your way into the bathroom, you run into your friend who you invited to the event with four other people. “Hey girl” is all you can get out of your mouth because your hurt.

The Kiki- The Best Girls Night You’ll Ever Have

Featured

exhale_416With the return of Friendship Week I thought what better way to kick things off then with giving you some essential tips on having the best kiki with your girls! But what is a kiki anyway?

{noun} Kiki- good music and good friends, held for the express purpose of calming nerves, reducing anxiety and stress and generally fighting ennui.  Be warned  a kiki may involve lots of salacious gossip!

Sounds like a great Friday night to me!

In my mind when I think of a Kiki I think of that scene from Waiting to Exhale when all the women are grouping around each other and uplifting each other and most importantly helping soothe one another in lives toughest moments! That’s what real friends are for ! That the purpose  of a Kiki is to hang out, drink wine, eat great snacks, talk juicy gossip and reality tv news and be there for each other. So below are so few essentials to make this happen!

The Essentials

1. Girlfriends- Round up your girls, set the theme, the location and time! Remember to tell your girls to dress comfortably because it will be a long night!

2. Snacks and the Bubbly– Now this is my favorite part, in order to have a great Kiki you have to have comfort food and snacks! Don’t forget plenty of bubbly! This sets the mood for the kiki and helps everyone relax and spend some much needed quality time together. Think mess free pizza, popcorn, fruit kebabs, easy grabale snacks!

 3. Creative Entertainment and loud music– Lastly don’t forget the background music! We all have that one friend who can’t stand sadness so to cheer us up she turns the music up loud and gets us all dancing and enjoying ourselves!

But don’t just stop at music, think of fun DIY’s you can do for your kiki. Think a homemade photo booth (because let’s be real it’s nothing like a good usie) or even a good game of uno! -Don’t judge me I love uno!

But don’t forget the main part of a kiki is you spending time with your girls! So call all your girls, use your place as the location and have a kiki!!!  Be warned a kiki may have side effect of extreme laughing a bloated stomach and happiness. Enjoy some QT with your besties!!
